Knowing God’s Will

Today, get out there and be about God’s work.  What can you do for Jesus today?  We were not saved to be idle Christians, but to be doers of His word.  The question is what is His will in your life?  What should you be doing? Are you a Christian by word or deed?

Matthew 7: 21-23 (NIV) “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Knowing the will of God can be a complex thing or a simple thing.  Trust in God and He will make his will known to you.  Get out there and do God’s will. Look at the will of God in these seven beginning steps and He will add the rest:

  1. The will of God begins at salvation.  God wants you to be saved.  God wants everyone else to be saved, so do what can to lead others to the Lord.
  2. Pray. God wants a relationship with you that begins with you telling him about your day, your troubles, your feelings, and thanking him for your blessings.  Hold nothing back.  Be honest with God.  He know’s your thoughts anyway.
  3. Study His word. Read the Bible.  He wants you to love Him enough to learn about Him.  Look at John1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
  4. Meditate upon Him and His word.  Meditation has been kid-napped by the world, but God asks us in His word to meditate.  1 Timothy 4:15 (KJV) Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all
  5. Fasting. Fasting is done as an exercise in overcoming the desires of the flesh.  Sin often begins with the desires of the flesh, thus fasting helps a Christian deny his flesh.  This small sacrifice and attention to Christ is a Christian’s strength and faith building exercise.
  6. Love. God requires us to love others.  He expects us to love even our enemies.  Learn to love.
  7. Keep His Commandments. If we love God we will obey God.  Do as His word commands us.  Follow Christ in deed, thought, and within our hearts.

These are the foundational steps in God’s will.  If you do these seven steps in God’s will, He will guide you in His will.  Upon these things God will build His deeper will for you.  He will not likely tell you in an audible voice what to do, but He will place within your heart desires that align with His will.  He will give you the desires of your heart.

Do these 7 things and you will do God’s will, because God is faithful.
